CADEC--Micromechanics-Random Reinforced Lamina

Random Reinforced Laminas are reinforced by relatively long fibers with random orientation but always laying on the plane of the lamina. Fiber systems with random orientation include Chopped Fibers, Continuous Strand Mat (CSM), and so on. Chopped fibers fly out of a chopping gun, they are mixed with resin in midair, and land on the mold at random orientations. CSM is a type of fiber reinforcement fabricated by swirling a continuous tow or yarn swirls on a plane. The end result is a reinforcing sheet with fibers oriented randomly in every direction. When a composite lamina is reinforced with random orientation, the moduli and strength of the composite are identical in all directions on the plane of the lamina.
