Micromechanics-Unidirectional-Transverse Modulus-Periodic Microstructure

Transverse modulus is Young's modulus in the direction perpendicular to the fibers. Periodic Microstructure Model (PMM) is more accurate than other micromechanics methods in part because the formulation of PMM takes into account that carbon and other fibers are not isotropic. This means that the modulus of the fiber is smaller in the radial direction is than along the fiber. Since the transverse direction of the lamina coincides with the radial direction, not with the fiber direction, using the radial modulus leads to more accurate predictions.
