Macromechanics-Intact Material-Hygrothermal loads

Thermal loads and hygroscopic loads are due to thermal expansion and moisture expansion (swelling) of the laminas in the laminate. Due to coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and moisture expansion (CME) mismatch between the laminas, residual stresses are induced. The hygrothermal loads are stress resultants that when applied to the laminate produce the same laminate strains as the thermal and moisture expansion would.
